The Apollo program, the Space Shuttle program, and now SpaceX's Falcon 9 and Starship programs have all called this cape home. The name "Cape Canaveral" appears on maps as far back as 1564 — it comes from Spanish explorers who noted the cane grass (caña) growing in the area.
