History of Hollywood Studios

Originally opened as Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989, the park was conceived as a working film and television production facility combined with a theme park. Over time, actual production moved out and the park evolved into a fully themed entertainment destination. The name changed to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2008. Major expansions include Toy Story Land (2018) and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (2019), which together reinvented the park and dramatically increased attendance.
