History of Universal Studios Florida

Universal Studios Florida opened on June 7, 1990, as the first theme park at what would become Universal Orlando Resort. The park was originally conceived as a working film studio and theme park, competing directly with Disney-MGM Studios. Major milestones include the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley in 2014, which transformed the park and dramatically boosted attendance. The Hogwarts Express train connects Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.
