Florida's Citrus Heritage
Florida has been synonymous with oranges for over 150 years. While the industry has declined due to citrus greening disease and development, Central Florida still celebrates its citrus heritage. The peak citrus season runs from November through May, with different varieties ripening at different times. Valencia oranges for juice peak in spring while navels are best in winter.
Grove Tours and U-Pick
Showcase of Citrus in Clermont offers a U-pick experience where visitors drive monster trucks through 2,500 acres of groves to pick their own oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit. Mixon Fruit Farms in Bradenton offers guided tram tours through working groves. Many smaller family groves along US-27 and in Polk County offer seasonal U-pick opportunities.
Fresh Juice and Products
Harvey's Groves along US-1 on the Space Coast and throughout Central Florida sells fresh-squeezed juice and citrus products. Orange World on US-192 in Kissimmee features a giant orange-shaped building and sells citrus, juice, and souvenirs. Florida's Natural visitor center in Lake Wales offers tours of their juice processing facility.
