History of Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Kingdom opened on April 22, 1998 (Earth Day), as the fourth Walt Disney World theme park. It was the brainchild of Imagineer Joe Rohde, who spent years researching and designing the park to authentically represent wildlife and conservation. The park's most transformative addition came in 2017 with the opening of Pandora - The World of Avatar, which brought the park into the nighttime entertainment era with bioluminescent lighting effects.
