Spring Snorkeling
Florida springs offer some of the clearest snorkeling water in the eastern United States. Alexander Springs in Ocala National Forest has crystal-clear water with visibility exceeding 50 feet. Blue Spring State Park offers snorkeling in the spring run (closed during manatee season). Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River provides snorkeling with manatees during winter.
Coastal Snorkeling
Bathtub Reef Beach in Stuart features a natural reef formation that creates a protected snorkeling area. The Ft. Lauderdale area has nearshore reefs accessible from the beach. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo offers the best reef snorkeling in Florida, accessible by boat from the park. Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach is considered one of the best shore dives and snorkels in the country.
What You Will See
Spring snorkeling reveals freshwater fish, turtles, and gar in incredibly clear water. In winter, manatees are visible in several springs. Coastal snorkeling offers tropical fish, sea turtles, rays, and coral formations. The variety of underwater environments makes Central Florida and South Florida among the best snorkeling regions on the East Coast.
