About A1A
State Road A1A is Florida's iconic coastal highway running along the Atlantic Ocean barrier islands. The road connects beach communities from Fernandina Beach in the north to Key West in the south, though it is not continuous. Through Central Florida, A1A passes through Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Cocoa Beach, Indialantic, Melbourne Beach, and Vero Beach.
Space Coast Section
The A1A segment through the Space Coast passes Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Patrick Space Force Base, Satellite Beach, and Indialantic. This section includes the famous Cocoa Beach Pier, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and numerous oceanfront hotels and restaurants. The road offers direct views of rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
Daytona Beach Section
A1A through Daytona Beach passes along the famous hard-packed sand beach where cars are allowed to drive on the sand in designated areas. The road runs past the Daytona Beach Boardwalk, the Bandshell, and Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse. New Smyrna Beach to the south is known as one of the best surf spots on the East Coast.
