About The Florida Aquarium
The Florida Aquarium is located on the Tampa Riverwalk in the Channel District of downtown Tampa. The 250,000-square-foot facility traces the journey of a drop of water from its source in an underground spring through Florida's freshwater habitats to the open ocean. Over 14,000 aquatic plants and animals represent Florida's native and tropical marine ecosystems.
Exhibits
Major exhibits include the Coral Reef Gallery featuring a 500,000-gallon habitat with sharks, rays, and tropical fish. The Wetlands Trail recreates a Florida swamp with alligators, river otters, and wading birds. The Ocean Commotion play area entertains young children. The Penguin Promenade features African penguins. The Heart of the Sea exhibit showcases sea turtles.
Special Experiences
Behind-the-scenes tours take visitors above the coral reef tank to watch feeding. Shark swim programs allow certified divers to enter the shark tank. Wild dolphin eco-cruises depart from the aquarium to Tampa Bay for dolphin watching and sunset trips. The outdoor Splash Pad provides water play for children.
Group Events
The Florida Aquarium offers group rates, field trip programs, and private event spaces with aquatic backdrops. BusBrother transports groups from Orlando to the aquarium, about 85 miles via I-4.
