About Silver Springs

Silver Springs State Park in Ocala is one of Florida's oldest and most famous natural attractions. Glass-bottom boat tours have operated here since 1878, making it one of the earliest tourist attractions in the state. The main spring is one of the largest artesian springs in the world, producing about 550 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily.

Glass-Bottom Boats

The glass-bottom boat tour remains the signature experience at Silver Springs. The 30-minute tour glides over the spring vents where visibility can reach 80 feet. Riders see fish, turtles, and submerged fossils through the glass panels. The spring was used as a filming location for several Tarzan movies and the television series Sea Hunt.

Kayaking the Silver River

Kayak and canoe rentals are available for self-guided paddles down the Silver River. The river flows through dense forest and is home to colonies of rhesus macaque monkeys introduced in the 1930s for a Tarzan film. Paddlers often spot manatees, turtles, birds, and the distinctive monkeys along the riverbanks.
