About Wekiwa Springs
Wekiwa Springs State Park is a 7,800-acre natural oasis located in Apopka, just 20 minutes north of downtown Orlando. The park features a crystal-clear spring that maintains a constant 72-degree temperature year-round. Despite its proximity to the Orlando urban area, the park protects significant wildlife habitat including black bears, deer, and river otters.
Swimming and Paddling
The main spring is a popular swimming hole with a sandy bottom and clear blue-green water. A concession area rents kayaks and canoes for paddling down the Wekiva River, a designated Florida Outstanding Waterway. The river paddle offers chances to see wildlife including turtles, herons, and occasionally alligators and otters.
Hiking and Biking
The park offers 13 miles of hiking trails through sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, and hydric hammock ecosystems. The trails range from easy nature walks to longer backcountry loops. Mountain biking is allowed on designated trails. The park connects to the Wekiva Trail system for extended hiking options.
